Still haven't found accommodation, will be in Vienna in three weeks!

Hello. My partner and I will be in Vienna in approx. three weeks for eight nights. Late 60's physically active, no disabilities, can get about just fine. While I would like to stay in the Innere Stadt, it's just not possible given our budget. I want to stay at $2,000 (€1800) for the stay. Would be wonderful if breakfast came with the rate. If breakfast doesn't come with, then a small mini fridge is a must. It's been recommended for me to look at a map of the tram line in Vienna and pick a hotel near one. Have tried that with no success. Can one recommend an area to stay in at least, maybe that will help me find a hotel to stay.
Thank you

Thank you. That is a hotel I’ve looked at. Unfortunately according to their website, they are fully booked. And priced more than our budget allows.

This hotel is known for its excellent breakfast buffet and moderate prices. It is located at Urban-Loritz-Platz, a major public transport hub (subway U6, three tram lines), and 5 minutes away from Westbahnhof (western train station) with subways U3 and U6, and 5 tram lines, where the end of Mariahilfer Strasse is located, the main shopping street in Vienna, which you may walk down to the Ring (Ring Boulevard). Having good access to public transport is essential in Vienna, as the city is too big to visit everything just by walking. It is a wrong perception of most tourists that it is necessary to stay in the very center (Innere Stadt).

We stayed at Hotel City-Central. It was a very short walk over a bridge to the city center. I always look for location and price and breakfast, this hotel ticked off all 3 boxes.

I checked and they have availability but it is slightly over your budget. BUT, what I would do is call during the day (be mindful of time differences) and ask the manager if you could have a discount for staying 8 nights. Tell them your budget. If can’t hurt and maybe if they aren’t nearly fully booked they will accommodate you.

We stayed in the Inner Stadt at the Pension Suzanne, near the opera house. Although it no longer offers breakfast there is a great little cafe a one minute walk away. It was affordable and close to the train station and also the tram stop at the opera house that takes you all around the ringstrasse. It is right near the pedestrian area so you can walk to many places.

I stayed at Pension Nossek in Vienna and absolutely loved it. The hotel is located in the Innere Stadt (city center) very near St. Stephen's Cathedral, the building interior was quite beautiful and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. In fact, I was so pleased with the service that I spent time saying goodbye to the staff members I had contact with on my last morning there. Breakfast is available for an extra fee, and it was very good. I don't know what the availability is for your dates, but the price was very reasonable. https://pension-nossek.hotelsinvienna.org/en/

You could also look at booking.com, which allows you to plug in your dates, and add filters (i.e., price, extras, etc.). This will show you any hotels that have available rooms for your date.

I stayed at Hotel Zipser several years ago while attending a conference at the University of Vienna. It was on a list of hotels suggested by the conference. It was also well located for sightseeing and public transportion. It is an 8 minute walk to the Rathaus, if that helps. Without knowing your exact nights, it looks like the price, including breakfast, is within your range and that there are rooms available 3 weeks from now. It is an older, not fancy hotel that I found adequate, comfortable and convenient for the price. At the time I was there, some rooms had air conditioning but mine didn't (in July). They supplied a fan which was adequate at the time but might be a concern now.

Penzion Suzanne is around the corner from the opera house, a block away from the tram and two blocks to the subway, walking distance or quick tram ride to the Imperial Museums. It's quieter than the location would indicate. Not fancy but comfortable. Breakfast included https://www.pension-suzanne.at/en/
I stayed there four nights last year.

@wmnt1. Thanks for the recommendation. The reviews are mixed for the hotel you recommend. While I know I shouldn't be picky at this stage of the game, I think I'll pass on that one. Apparently there is a student dormitory that shares a courtyard with the hotel and have been complaints of the students being loud late into the evening.

@Mardee, Pension Nossek is fully booked. Yes, I see a lot of accommodations to stay at but am unsure of which might be in a good location. Thanks.

@G3rryCee yes, I have considered an AirBnBn until I remember the issues we've had staying at one in Malta back in April and Hawaii last year. Always seems like it has to do with lack of hot water after one person takes a shower because of the size of the water heater.

I don't think any recommendations here are going to be useful. You just need to go on booking.com and do a search for your dates and your budget .

@Kim, also in my post above it states "Can one recommend an area to stay in." Yes I'm quite capable of searching online hotel websites for accommodations. As I've never been to Vienna before, a recommended area to stay in for transportation and sights is always welcome. Your profile states Paris. If I were to recommend to someone who hasn't stayed in Paris before, my top three arrondissements in my opinion would be 1st, 7th and 18th. and I'd explain why I prefer those to others. I'm not asking anyone to pick out my hotel for me, recommendations and areas of Vienna are quite suffice.

Apparently there is a student dormitory that shares a courtyard with the hotel and have been complaints of the students being loud late into the evening.

This should not be a problem in September as universities start in October.
Nevertheless, I guess the hotel has soundproof windows to keep off the noise from traffic; this is usual in Vienna. It is a problem only if there is no A/C and you want to open the windows.

The reviews are mixed for the hotel you recommend.

I looked up the reviews on Tripadvisor and they are overwhelmingly positive. Most of the negative reviews are 4 or 5 years old. In the meantime the hotel has refurbished the rooms. Friends of mine from NYC stayed there and had nothing to complain.

My son and I stayed at Hostel Ruthensteiner in a private room. Super cute place. The room was ok. Nice breakfast every morning, super friendly people.

Candi, if you want a recommended area, I would suggest looking through a guidebook as they generally will let you know what are the best areas to stay in. I will give my recommendation and that is the Innere Stadt, aka City Center but of course it’s very popular, which is probably why you’re not finding anything.

I think Kim had a very good suggestion, which was to go to booking.com, where you can do filters based on dates, price, and location. That’s really going to be your best option to find something.

The only other option I can think of is to go to Google Maps, zoom in on Vienna, and start looking for hotels there. I have found any number of hotels using that method in the past. Look for ones that are rated 4.4 and above.

I realize that you want to stay in a nice place, but with your timeframe, and budget considerations, you may not be able to find anything unless you look further outside of the city center. Most of these places will be fine, but they will take you some time to get to the sights. They will definitely be cheaper than staying inside the city center though.

ETA: Mary’s suggestion would be a good one if they have availability. I’ve stayed at Motel Ones before and they are very clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. They also offer breakfast, although it is not included in the price. However I think if you become a member, you get breakfast on the first day for free.

Hilton Vienna Park looks like it meets your criteria.

I find that using the map feature on booking dot com works very well. Metro stations are shown.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I ended up choosing K&J Hotel Maria Theresia. Is in a good area, comes with breakfast, coffee and tea, and is large family room. All of that for approximately $1,800. It’s a hotel I’ve been looking at off and on, think it’s a good fit for what we’re looking for.

""...pick a hotel near one." If this is within your budget, I would suggest Park Hotel Schoebrunn, very elegant and genteel, close to Hietzing U-Bahn station stop. The U-4 stops there. From the station it's about a minute to the hotel. Hietzing is the stop after Schoenbrunn. You take tram # 60 in front Hietzing station to get to Westbahnhof and the numerous tram and U-Bahn lines stopping there.

I stay in the Westbahnhof area which has the Mercure , the Motel One adjacent to the train station, and the InterCity, stayed in all three this last trip to Vienna, all very satisfactory and for a decent price.

What about staying in the Karlsplatz area?
