I've been researching places to stay for night on the Grossglockner in July on our to Val Gardena. While researching, the area sure does look spectacular. I'm considering spending one less day in Val Gardena (3 instead of 4) and adding an extra day along the Grossglockner. Anybody else wish they had spent more time along Grossglockner? Or should stick to my original plan of one night.
Hi Brett,
I'd head to the Val Gardena. While the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse is amazing, the Dolomite Passes (Gardena, Sella, Pordoi, Campolongo, Falzarego, Giau, etc.), all very close to the Val Gardena, are even more spectacular drives and scenery, plus they're all free, meaning no toll charges like the Grossglockner. Driving the Gardena Pass is my personal favorite. Done it many times.

Hi again Brett,
We did stay in Heiligenbut, actually just outside the village in October 2007.

I'd still keep the 4 days for the Dolomites. The passes are incredible drives.

Spent a week in Sexton/Sesto (Dolomites in Italy just across the Austrian boarder) in June a few years back in the Hochpustertal and loved it. July will be high season so many Seilbahn should be running and most restaurants and hotels open.

Spent a week near Seis for the Seiser Alm and loved it too. Visited St. Ulrich for a day and it was nice too.
