I programmed to stay 3,5 days in the area of Salzburg to visit the city of Mozart ,Halstatt and Betchtesgaden.
-Do you advise me to stay in Salzburg or in St gilgen?
-How should i divise my stay between those places?

Salzburg is your best bet for access to Betchtesgaden and Hallstatt,if you have a car it won't matter.St Gilgen is definitely worth a visit and you can take the boat to St Wolfgang.

I'd also suggest staying in Salzburg as there's to do there in the evenings, lots of good restaurants and also good transportation. Using the DB Bus from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden is probably the easiest method. You can either travel to Hallstatt by train (1 change at Attnang-Pucheim) or take a day tour (have a look at Bob's Special Tours as one of their trips may work for you).

During our last visit to Salzburg, we stayed for 3 days in the Old Center of Salzburg and then stayed 2 nights in St. Wolfgang (across the lake from St. Gilgen) for a totally different stop. We loved staying in the lakefront hotel in a relaxing quaint town where we could take some easy morning hikes in the lower portion of the mountains and enjoy the town in the afternoon. If you select St. Wolfgang, be sure to arrive there by boat - beautiful ride!
I wouldn't stay at St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen for the entire 5 days - too isolated and so much to see in Salzburg.
