Hello,
With one 24 hour span in St Wolfgang during the Christmas markets - I’m wondering how to budget time. I’m aware of the Advent boat that visits the other two lake villages but that will take all day. Is there a lot to see and do in St. Wolfgang? I would love to see the other villages but might miss St. Wolfgang itself. Has anyone stayed the night and what’s the best way to budget time ?
Thank you !
Carol
St. Wolfgang is a village - a tiny speck of a place. The Christmas Market covers the entire village - there is nothing left to see.
You will definitely want to take the boat to Sankt Gilgen (the best of the three markets) and I highly recommend stopping at the third one in Strobl. You could easily add on a trip up the Schafbergbahn on the Christmas train, but it is a quick up and down ride (nothing up there but knee deep snow and freezing temperatures.
Yes, it is an all day thing, but that is the only thing to do.
Just to say I was in St Wolfgang the third week in January this year. Almost everything closed and a only handful of tourists. Dead village then. After the Weihnachtsmarkt the locals take break.
We visited St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang by boat in Dec. 2024. St. Gilgen was the better place to visit imo.
