St. Anne's or St. Charles

It is our first time and Vienna and of course we must go see a musical! Both concerts have received good reviews but was wondering if anyone had an opinion on which would be better to see?

I doubt you will see a musical. A concert, perhaps? These venues have different concerts each night. What are your dates and what is the performance called?

yes... a Concert.

These are the 2 I have heard most about. We are going in November. I just was wondering if anyone had any intake on the two performances

I attended a concert at St. Anne's a few years ago. It was a perfectly fine performance... more for tourists than for locals, but the musicians were good. The Musikverein's Großer Saal is a great place to see a concert, but there is not much of interest there during the dates of your visit.

What is suggested to stay more away from the touristy shows? I do not know much about this and it is something my boyfriend would really like to see

Not necessarily hokey-touristy in church venues. Many places tend towards the "standards" like The Four Seasons which more people know -- but locals who go to concerts on a regular basis want to hear a variety of composers/ styles/ selections. Your choice may depend on your musical preferences.

I think the church concerts are fine, especially if there are not better options. Hokey-touristy, to borrow Laura's term, to me is musicians dressed in 18th century costumes. The church concerts are not that.
