We are looking at 7 full days in Austria (23-29 Dec incl) split between Salzburg and Vienna. I'd really appreciate recommendations as to how we should split our time between the two. Initially we'd thought to start in Salzburg to catch the Christmas markets before Christmas Eve but it appears from my research that some markets in both Salzburg and Vienna will close on the 24th whilst others continue through to the New year? Given how quiet it is between the afternoon of the 24th until the 26th/27th, would Vienna offer more options for things to do over those first few days? Should we split our time equally between the two? It will be our first visit to Austria. Any advice would be most appreciated! Love scrolling through these forums and picking up valuable tips etc. Thank you in advance!
I'll just say that with the possibility of snow in the Alps, the lights and decorations, the Stimmung (mood) in Salzburg maybe be better for the Weihnachtsmarkets and the earlier dates.

Note that December 24 is a Sunday and December 25 & 26 are public holidays, i.e., you have three days where nearly everything is closed.
