Splitting 10 days between Tirol, Salzburg and the Lakes

Hello!

My girlfriend and i are spending September in Switzerland and Austria. We have 10-11 days open in the middle to...

1) Hike in the Tirolean Alps

2) See the sites in Salzburg

3) Explore the Lakes region

I'd like to spend 7 nights hiking and relaxing at this wonderful spa. But I'm not sure whether 4 days is enough time to do justice to the other areas we want to see.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

"...to the other areas we want to see." Not too far from Salzburg ca 1.5 hrs by bus from Salzburg Hbf is Bad Ischl, especially this year if you want to see something historical pertaining to WW 1 and its outbreak. The Kaiservilla there is the site of the Habsburg summer residence from Vienna.

Seven nights in the ZillerTal at the wellness hotel looks like a relaxing but active interlude in a month of travel. With the ZilletTal week including walking and hiking in what appears to be a valley setting, and before or after Swiss hikes, you may want to spend more time exploring Salzburg (and possibly Innsbruck).

While you could see much of old town Salzburg in a full day, two full days (3 nights) of wondering around Salzbug would be more of a holiday experience than a "check off done it" type of trip.

We had a sprint tour of a lake district near Salzburg as part of a Sounds of Music half day tour. If you visit Salzburg, the Lakes could be a day well spent. http://www.visit-salzburg.net/surroundings/salzkammergut.htm

Thanks for the responses!

If you had 4 nights to split between Salzburg and Halstatt, how would you do it?

Other travelers have started you on a good track. I think this area looks nice to relax and when you get to Salzburg you could spend the rest of your time there and do a lot of day trips. I personally like Hallstatt and have enjoyed staying a couple nights there. I know a lot of people think Hallstatt is overwhelmed with tourists now (and it probably is) but it is very nice and has a lot of hiking, boating, and swimming in the area. You can watch some of Rick's episodes in the area to help give you an idea on how much time you would like to spend in each area.
