May I buy the spar 2nd class senior rail card in Vienna at the train station? If so, what is the price? Thank you.

According to the oebb website, yes. Cost is 29 euro per year. Its called a Vorteilscard, for 61 and older, must carry photo ID with proof of age. 50 % discount on oebb trains and 25% on private railways. I see nothing about Austrian or European residency.

I just called OeBB customer service and asked them your question. The Vorteils Card for Seniors is only available for residents of the European Union. It costs 29 Euro.

You can achieve similar savings by purchasing your tickets online in advance through www.oebb.at; these discounted tickets are called Sparschiene tickets and can be used by anyone of any age and any nationality.

What routes do you plan to travel within Austria? If traveling between Salzburg and Vienna, it is worth mentioning that there is a private rail service on that corridor called Westbahn. Tickets for Westbahn trains can be purchased on the train from the conductor (cost is the same if purchased in advance or at the station). Ticket from Salzburg to Vienna on Westbahn costs 25 Euro per person.
