Sound of music tour

Hi
We are traveling to Austria in September.
We are active and in our 60’s.
Thinking of going in a Sound of Music tour.
Is there plenty of time in these tours to get off the bus and explore?
Thank you

You need to define "plenty of time"-most of the stops on the one we took(Bob's) were 15-30 minutes. We took the tour in 2012 .There was a thread in 2023 about their negative experience with Bob's and I would agree that they are definitely not the same level of excellence as the Rabbies and Mad Max Tours we have taken elsewhere.

We took the SOM tour with Bob's Special Tours in Dec. 2022 and loved it! For just a few of the stops, it was roughly 15 minutes or so, but that was plenty of time for those stops. The others we had much more time, such as at Mondsee where we had over an hour to wander. I can't remember just how long, but we stopped at a cafe, shopped, toured (on our own) the church etc. So it was maybe even longer as we were not rushed at all. Our guide was excellent and we had a great time! They use vans, so we only had a total of 8 people. Based on our experience, I would not hesitate at all to recommend it.

i’ve taken the Panorama tour three times - 1970, 1987, & 2011. I don’t recall feeling rushed at all. Many of the sights are in the old town where the bus can’t go so I always recommend viewing the movie before your trip and walking the old town to see some of the sights. Also go into Mirabell gardens to see the dwarf statues

Are you fans of SOM or of sightseeing? You know this all takes place only in Salzburg, yes?

If you're interested in sightseeing outside the city, I'd recommend a daytrip to the Wolfgangsee (I did a post on this a few years back). Beautiful lake and countryside and church.

I really enjoy SOM, but am not a hard core fan. Not all of it is in Salzburg. Mondsee is where the church is, for instance. Anyway, what does it matter, if people enjoy out then that is all that matters.
