Sound of Music by Bob

Rick Steves suggested Bob's tours for Sound of Music. When I investigated the tour online I found that it includes Palace of Leopoldskron, Hellbrun Palace and the parish church of Mondsee. The cost of the tour does not include entry fees. I've read positive things about his tours on this site but nothing about additional charges. Any one have experience with Bob's tours and the pricing? Another tour guide we're using to book our transportation has suggested another Sound of Music Tour that is of equal length but twice as expensive. I'm not sure if I'm using fair comparisons. Do we even need to go inside these places and does Bob's tour include time to do so? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi, we went to several of the Sound of Music locations but just on our own. The church didn’t have an entry fee but had a place to give an optional donation. The house/palace is run as a hotel. We saw the outside of it; I’m not sure they allow tour groups to walk through it. And Schloss Hellbrunn was around €13 to see the trick fountains, etc. The glass gazebo is close to it, also.

We did this tour just this past December and absolutely loved it! We did not have any extra fees. There is no admission fee at the church in Mondsee, and yes we had plenty of time to go inside. We a bit of time in this little town as well so were able to get coffee/pastry and shop a bit as well as linger in the church. Our guide was excellent and gave us so much information, especially what was real and what was not. I have no hesitation in recommending this tour, FWIW.

I do not remember any extra expense other than the bob sled course.
Like many things it kind of depends upon the person you get directing the tour. We did this in 2016 and our driver was not having her best day. I had expected kind of a happy atmosphere, singing the songs, and what not. That was not our experience with Bob’s. We did however get up into the Lakes area and had a lot of fun with the bobsled course. If I had to do it again, for the price of four adults, I would rent a car for the day out of Salzberg or just see the sites within the town.

Renee--There was no bobsled course as part of our tour in December. Our guide, Johnathon, was excellent. The morning of the tour, as we were leaving breakfast another diner said they had done the same tour we were doing, but the day before. He mentioned Johnathon and said he hoped we got him as he was wonderful. We didn't count on it, but lucked out and did get him. It was a really enjoyable day. I'm sorry that your guide was not on her game that day:(

We did that tour in 2016 and loved it. There were no extra fees. You only see the palaces from the outside. No inside tours.
