Some culinary questions, Vienna and area :-)

Glad to find this board ! Some very useful info found, especially regarding Wachau day trip, thank you :-)
Would be very glad to get some insight on those questions, we have almost two weeks based in 1060 district
not far from Schonbrunn palace, our 10 yo son is joining so "fancy Michelin" unfortunately problematic this time, but :

  • Unordinary splurging brunch/breakfast might be fun, targeting the one at Glasswing but breakfast menu doesn't seem to be strong on the desserts side, is it nice there or consider something else ?

  • Wachau midweek will probably be train to Melk+715/720 bus with some stops and Durnstein+Krems train to Wien, looking for "hidden foodie gems" like cafes/Konditorei/local sweets and for lunch would have loved eating and purchasing some goodies at a place like Josef Jamek winery but it seems like reservations only and too complicated to get there on the exact required time, so maybe other options to consider, for some interesting high level cooking but more flexible hours and friendly faces to walk ins ? :-) Complicated, i know.. And what is considered please the most interesting delicacy/gourmet shop in the Wachau region, for varied local/Austrian small scale producers and of course excellent apricot jams etc..

  • And back to Vienna, our "restaurants itinerary" looks currently like this -
Chinacy - we love modern asian of all types, also traditional, it looks like a fun place for the Chinese evening,
want to select one more modern place, maybe Korean direction, so what do you think about MokoLab ? LaoLao close to apartment but not sure how interesting is the place..
Skopik & Lohn - would have LOVED doing Mraz & Sohn, but not sure about sneaking an hamburger for our son :-) So Skopik seems ideal, maybe bit "safe and boring" for the modern Austrian bistro non Michelin spot..
Gastwirtschaft Heidenkummer - must get to this place :-) A sucker for high level cooking gastropubs and this one seems to fit the bill..
Gasthaus Quell - Close by, and also seems quite nice and worth visiting
Sushi night - NihonBashi ? Tsutenkaku ? Quite a difference in prices..
For the interesting Italian spot - Casa Borbone ?
The seafood feast - Konoba ??

Sorry for the long post and will be happy for any advice, thank you :-)

Sounds like you're a foodie like me. When is your trip? I wouldn't say that Mariahilf is near Schonbrunn, but it is on that side of town.

Brunch/breakfast - I've never been to Glasswing as I think this is more geared towards visitors/tourists. To be honest, a typical Viennese breakfast is a roll and a coffee. They are slowly figuring out this breakfast/brunc thing, but it tends to be a bit hipster still with lots of eggs benedicts. That said, I have a few breakfast/brunch favorites. Neni am Naschmarkt, Propeller, Ulrich, The Guesthouse, Offerl on Wollzeile, The Meierei by Steiereck, Ponykarussell, and Ramasuri.

Wachau - You will really primarily find multiple outlets of the Wieser Apricot emporium. Even in tiny Duernstein there are at least two. That said, their quality is high. The Wachau is famous for its Marillenknödel (apricot dumplings). Anywhere you can find these in the Wachau will be good. The Wachau is also famous for a roll, the Wachauer Laberl, which is mainly used to convey ham and cheese while drinking wine. In my opinion, the best place to eat for me (not fancy, just good food), is the Mang in Weissenkirchen. Drink the wine, get the meat and cheese platter, watch your child play in the giant garden.

Vienna Restaurants -

Chinacy, ok. LaoLao, ok (I like the Herrengasse location). Many here will say that the best Chinese is on Rechte and Linke Wienzeile on either side of the Naschmarkt. But to be honest, I have never really had great Chinese food here. For sushi, maybe DiningRuhm?

Skopik and Lohn is good. But if you want something more real, like a Viennese gasthaus, let me know. I have never been to the Gasthaus Quell or the Gastwirschaft Heidenkummer. (Quell is not in the best neighborhood, fyi).

Sushi - DiningRuhm.

Italian - Like my comment about Chinese food, I have never found a great Italian place, except for some very exceptionally good pizza places (like really great Neapolitan places).

Seafood? In Vienna? Nah.

Thank you Emily, notes taken, I'm not a big fan of eggs benedict breakfasts, but my wife is :-) Will rethink Glasswing, the good known bakeries like L'amour du pain and Crema are in plan for some of the mornings and i might convince her to try other cute coffee shops/bakeries in that style, should be fun..
I actually did some mess with location, trip is in about three weeks and place is at 1050 close to the chocolate museum, not 1060, i'm not sure that both areas are the safest/best neighborhoods, hope at least ok, we loved how accommodation looked+price was decent for the semi long stay, so more money to spend on good food "-)

Mang of course was on my list as a good walk in option, but the fact that they serve only(?) cold cuts is a bit disappointing, but of course not ruling them out, we will probably pass there as they seem to be open 12-22+fun place..
Thanks for Wachau tips, i will probably find great selection of small scale jam producers when visiting Staud's, looking forward to check the place..
And regarding DiningRuhm, it was one of the first names in my list to check, but i have to say that the prices of that fusion rolls looks a bit intimidating.. Will check a bit more in depth about the place.. And would be very glad to get info on your Gasthaus favorites, i marked too many in my virtual map which we will never visit i guess, as options if we walk by etc.. So would be great to do some cross-checking with your recommendations !
Thanks for taking the time to help here and at many other good posts, like for eg the Wien strolls you published, highly appreciated :-)
