Solo in Austria

I will be heading to Austria in September. I will be staying with a friend in Vienna. She has to work most of the time I am there so I will be exploring mostly on my own. She lives in the 23rd District with area code 1230. I have not done a lot of international travel on my own and am a little nervous about it. My concerns are mostly getting from her home to Vienna on the train and navigating the train system. Once in Vienna is it a easy town to navigate and will I have any problems getting back to a train station. I am hoping to take a few day trip tours as I do not want to drive.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions I would really appreciate it. I have done some research but any special places I must see please let me know.
Thank you,
Kristine

Vienna is super easy to get around in. The trains/subways can take you to almost every interesting place you might want to go. It's all very logical and easy to figure out.
Put your address into Google maps, pick your destination and select the public transportation icon. It will burp out the subway schedule, stations etc. It's super easy to use. If you get a local phone service, you can use this on your phone.

I once took my wife with me on a business trip to Vienna. While I was working, she went out to explore. She was able to get from our hotel to Innere Stadt where she was able to wander and explore. One day she ended up watching Prince Charles and Princess Diana pass by..... it was her first ever trip to Europe...no problem!
Vienna has always been a favorite city due to all of the thing to see and do and how easy it is to get around, If you can get to the Innere Stadt, you can occupy literal days in just that area alone.
Enjoy.....

The 23rd city borough is part of Vienna, i.e. you are already in Vienna, in the south, not in the historic center, though.

Download the app "VOR AnachB" (meaning "Transport Compound East Region [i.e. Vienna and surroundings] from A to B") onto your smart phone. You can enter any two addresses, and the app will give you the best way to go by public transport, including all details about changing, etc.

If you will accept one more app suggestion. I use the WienMobil app when in Vienna. It's the app for Wiener Linien, the company that runs most of the public transport in Vienna. It has a route function that tells you how to get from one place to another. You can buy tickets on it, including a day ticket, 72 hour ticket, weekly ticket (starts Monday at midnight), etc. It also has ways to search for other methods of transport, too (like rent a bike).

I will readily admit, though, that I have never stayed in the 23rd district. I assume it works well there, but wmt1 would know better than I.
