So much to see, not enough time - need help editing please

My husband and I will travel to Austria and Czech Republic in early September. We will be in Vienna for 6 days and then will have 7 days (we travel back to the US on the 8th day), to travel and site see. On my list of places to see are the following: Wachau Valley, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Linz, Cesky Krumlov (was told to stay overnight here) and Prague (was told to allow 4 days here).

Please help narrow my scope, deletions of destinations are ok. I just don't know which ones are a "must see." Suggestions with transportation ideas from city to city would also be very helpful.
Thank you so very much!

7 days...well I could spend them all in Vienna, but for just 7 days maybe a day trip to Wachau, forget Linz and Innsbruck. Really if you want this to not be a blur spend at least 4 days Vienna, maybe 2 days Salzburg, you could fit in a day trip to the Wachau as well. Leave the other destinations for another time.

Thank you for your response. The 7 days won't include Vienna, as we will be there the previous 6 days. The 7 days is for further travel to the destinations I mentioned.

With 7 days, I would probably divide my time between Salzburg and Prague. You could spend 3.5 days in each, and maybe a day trip from each. I wouldn't try more than that.

From experience would go to Cesky Krumlov for 2 nights and the rest in Prague. There is plenty to do there and many day and half day trips (Terezin, Kutna hora, Pilsner). Have used www.ckshuttle.cz from Vienna to Cesky to Prague. Hope you have a great trip.

A "must see" is in the eye of the beholder. I think the Wachau Valley could be a day trip from Vienna (one of your 6 days). Salzburg underwhelmed me but I'm not a "Sound of Music" fan. Didn't find much of interest in Linz either, haven't been to Innsbruck. Cesky Krumlov could be an overnight between Vienna (or one of your other places) and Prague. It's crowded in the daytime but quiets down late in the afternoon, so you could enjoy it after the buses left and before they return the next day. Prague is worth at least several days imho.

I hope that helps. I do think that trying to get all your non-Vienna destinations into a week will wear you out and you won't do justice to them, certainly not to Prague. "Assume you will return."

I would visit the Wachau as a day trip from Vienna; Linz would be very low on my list of places to visit, as would Innsbruck. If you want the mountain/alpine experience, then go to Salzburg and budget a couple of day trip excursions to places like Hallstatt, Berchtesgaden, St. Wolfgang, ice caves, salt mines, etc. Getting to Cesky Krumlov is a bit difficult as it is not best served by public transport. Look at the bean shuttle and ck shuttle for getting there. Maybe it is also best to visit CK as a day trip from Prague, but this is not my area of expertise. I would say 3-4 days in Salzburg and 3-4 days in Prague.

If I only had six days in Vienna, I would not waste any of them as a day trip out of the city, especially if I already had an 7 additional days planned for afterwards. I spent 9 days in Wien earlier this month and got talked into day trips to Klosterneuberger and the opera at Bratislava. (Opera was horrible BTW) so several of my planned activities did not get done. Disappointing, but can wait until next summer, I suppose..
Wachau Valley, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Linz, Cesky Krumlov and 4 days in Prague seems a big too much for your last seven days. Maybe you could leave Salzburg and Innsbruck for your next trip?.

Thank you to you all. Your comments and suggestions help me make critical decisions which made the trip wonderful. We will visit the Watchu Valley tomorrow and with all the information I got on this forum I feel that the experience will be the very best!!
