small alpine town suggestion?

Hi all! I am looking for a small town to relax in in Austria (I put it in this forum because I had to choose one, but in Bavaria or Switzerland would be fine too!) for 3-4 days. The goal is simply beautiful scenery. Will have a car.

In the past we've loved Mittenwald in Germany but are just looking to try somewhere new. A plus would be some potential day trips that aren't more than 2-2.5 hours away, but really we are more interesting in relaxing in the mountains. Looking for that perfect little lesser-known alpine town! Any suggestions? Thanks!

My favorite place in Austria, and as beautiful place anywhere, is at the southern end of the Grossglockmer High Alpine Highway. The road runs from Zell-am-See and goes over the second highest mountain in Europe--ending in Lienz, Austria. It is east of Cortina in Italy. The area has a number of B&Bs and even large luxury resorts.

What time of year OP? I stumbled across Goldegg last summer. Doesn't sound very Austrian I know but it was small, pretty and had a swimming lake. We've spent the last 2 years in Rauris and love it there in the summer and going back again this year. Both of these are off the highway south of Salzburg on the way towards Zell am Zee and the grossglockner road. Plenty of day trips around in this area.

Thank you both for your suggestions! It would be in early June.

We based ourselves in the town of Oetz in the Otztal several years ago. Lots to do in the valley - amazing scenery, hiking. It's west of Innsbruck and south of Reutte. We did many day trip explorations throughout the Otztal and into neighbouring valleys and towns. The Otztal area was where the Ice Man was found many years ago, so there is a museum and many story boards scattered in the valley that talk about early man's movement and life in the area.
