I would appreciate any suggestions for skiing/snowboarding locations near Salzburg...as well as travel options and a general idea of cost for lift tickets. Would we need a car to drive to ski areas or is there local transportation? We will be staying near the train station in Salzburg next month (February).
Thanks in advance!
I hear this on the radio all the time "Skiamade:" https://www.skiamade.com/en/Winter/Skiing-Snowboarding
I'm sure there are many ski busses when you get to your town/area of choice.
You buy your lift ticket in advance, it is 56 EUR per person. Also, if you have your lift ticket in hand, there is a free ski bus from Salzburg.

I don't see info on where the bus picks up or if it operates every day. Send them an email.
We cross country skied in the PillerseeTal area of Tyrol, 2+ hour train trip from Salzburg to the village of Fieberbrunn. A downhill ski area;s base was at the backdoor of our hotel. Local bus service serving the ski areas in the PillerseeTal was free.

Our train ride to Fieberbrunn took us pass Zell am See, a bigger ski resort area. Zell am See was about 1.5 hours from the Salzburg train station.
