I had such a pleasant morning on this public holiday in Austria, that I thought I'd share.
First, breakfast at The Guesthouse. Do yourself a favor and order the Eggs Benedict. Best to reserve in advance.
Next, walk across the street for a few hours at the Albertina. Every time I go to this museum, I am reminded that it is really the best of the art museums in Vienna (and that's saying something considering the Kusthistoriches and Belvedere). The Albertina is really a museum for art lovers and artists. If you want to whiz through a museum and take a picture of yourself with Klimt's The Kiss, then this is not a message for you. In particular, the Modigliani exhibit at the Albertina (through January 9, 2022) is special. Very special. The exhibit on American Photography was very emotional for me as well. The permanent collection of works ranging from Monet to Picasso is outstanding. Plus, you can tour the state rooms of this former palace. I spent about three hours in the museum today and will go back soon.
If you want to continue with your day nearby, the National Library (stunning) is right around the corner, as is Demel if you want/need a slice of strudel and some coffee. Then stroll through the Hofburg grounds (free), go through the Volksgarten (be sure to find the Sisi Garden) and you'll be on the Ring.
