Sim card for 3 country trip

We are heading to Europe in May/June this coming spring. We will start in Germany, then to Austria and finish in Switzerland. I would prefer to have a phone for data available to me for the entirety of the trip. My phone is unlocked and I wonder can I purchase a sim card in each country, is it available at reasonable price for all countries for our 2 week trip
Thank you

You'll have to purchase a card in each country. If you were visiting one country, I'd suggest a local provider. My personal choice, when visiting more than one, is to sign up for T-mobile's Simple Choice plan here in the states. It might cost a little more than local SIM cards but you won't have to locate, purchase and activate three cards. The network switch is seamless when crossing frontiers. There's no contract with T-Mobile so just cancel service when you return home.

Sounds great, however I am Canadian...
However, I suppose I could buy a T-mobile sim and then call and activate it on the $50 plan, just before leaving

Rogers has a roam like home plan so others probably do too. Look into that.

I really don't think it is necessary. We just returned from a 10 day trip to Wien and Budapest and there was free wifi everywhere; every hotel, cafe, restaurant, many public places, too. For calls to the US, I made business calls on Google Hangouts. For local calls, I preloaded $5 on Skype and that went a long way. I used FaceTime to connect to family. I preloaded maps on Google Maps and used th GPS on my iPhone to navigate. Unless you need to be connected every second of the day SIM cards are totally superfluous.

You are arriving a bit too early. It is expected that effective July 2017 all roaming costs will be banned within the European Union, i.e. no matter where you are, the costs of using your phone will be the same as in the EU country where the SIM card was issued. So in the foreseeable future it will be sufficient to buy one SIM card, only.

We usually add the AT&T Passport plan to our phones... it's only about $60, has data and texting (calls are for a price, but we hardly ever call). Much easier for me than dealing with the sim card...

Lots of great advice. I can actually purchase a t mobile for $50 as suggested and may do that, I have called T mobile and they said that is the deal. However hearing that wifi is available everywhere I may just pre load Google maps on my S7 and go that route. Appreciate the help

TMobile will do everything you want and cheaper and better than AT&T. Cant imagine messing with sim cards in these days and times. You can always cancel the service after the trip if you don't want to keep them. I dont believe there is a contract if you don't buy a phone through them.

Go to Google Voice and get a free number. Install Voice and Hangouts apps on your phone before the trip. Voice only works off of cell data but with Hangouts you will be able to make VOIP calls to the US using only WIFI. (They call wifi WLAN a lot over there). This should work for Canadians too.

S7? Do they even allow those on planes? 😉

Thanks again. Yes, the S7 Edge is fine, it was the S7 note that had the fire/auto-destruct issues :)
