Side trips from Vienna

We visited Vienna and Salzburg over 30 years ago and are planning a return visit for 4 days between stays in Budapest and Prague. We're planning a city tour to reacquaint ourselves with the city a bit, but we don't feel the need to revisit most of the major tourist spots. We'd like to see the Wachau Valley, Melk Abbey, Hallstatt, and revisit Salzburg, but we prefer not to stay overnight in any of those locations because we're already doing a lot of packing and unpacking. We see a tour through GetYourGuide that includes all those spots, but are wondering if that's trying to cram too much into a single day, even a 14 hour day.. If so, what would make more sense? Any advice would be appreciated!

All this together is not doable in one day. It is possible to do Vienna-Hallstatt-Salzburg-Vienna by train in one day if you rise early and return late. Wachau Valley and Melk, maybe including Krems, is another day.

I think that a day trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt is a big slog from Vienna. Wachau is an obvious option for a reasonable day trip. Bratislava is the obvious other option. Alternatively, you could visit Rust on the Neusiedlersee. In Vienna, if you are coming when the weather is warm, I highly recommend a walk down Kahlenberg or a boat rental on the Alte Donau.
