I will only be in Vienna a couple of days and have decided to only see the Hofburg Imperial Apartments and not Schonbrunn Palace. Will there be a long line for tickets and should I buy online before I go? Thanks.

At least you should see Schonbrunn from the outside and walk around the gardens. It is the most spectacular attraction in Vienna, for certain. It is easily reachable by the subway.
As for the lines at the Hofburg, I can't imagine that you would wait more than a few minutes if visiting in May. The last time I went was actually in May and I went right up to the counter.

Thanks Emily! I hope we have time to see at least the outside of Schonbrunn Palace but our time is very limited so I thought we would try to stay in the ring.

Please try. Many of the best sites are not in the Ring. The area inside the Ring is quite small, so you should have time to explore a bit. When in May?

We will be there for a whole day on May 13th and a partial day on the 14th. We will take a late afternoon train to Saltzburg.
