Shipping from Vienna

I discovered the Steiff store in Salzburg. Several hundred Euro later and I have a bunch of stuffed animals that will not fit in my luggage and need to be shipped. Where in Vienna (I leave Salzburg first thing tomorrow) would be the best place to ship from? Thank goodness stuffed animals are not heavy.

At Austrian post offices they sell boxes in different sizes. Shipping costs are per weight, e.g. for US approx. €15 (up to 2kg), €25 (up to 4kg).

Life-long Steiff collector here--still have my first teddy, Cosy, that I got when I was 5 in 1969, and between me and my parents we have quite a big collection going back to 1920s. Finally got the chance in 2018 to take the train from Munich (less than 2 hours) to the little town where Steiff began, Giengen-an-der-Brenz. Charming little town, I enjoyed walking the main street and had an excellent Swabian lunch at the main hotel. The original factory is there, and next to it a wonderful museum full of fabulous toys and memorabilia. Also a factory shop as well as an independent toy shop across the street featuring oodles of collector's editions and vintage. It was, quite simply, overwhelming. I bought a few small pieces but was amused to see a couple staggering back to the train station with the equivalent of 4 large suitcases worth of boxes--they told me they were going to ship them back to Japan. Good luck with your shipping!

Research companies like Fed Ex and DHL, see if you can open an account with a discounted rate. Or ask Steiff, I'm sure they do this all the time. Or buy another suitcase and pay the slight additional cost, if any. Beware the duty free limit.

The best place to ship is the post office. Just use google maps to find the nearest one, they are everywhere.

I ordered some valuable merchandise from a Christmas Market vendor I met in Munich. They use DHL. I was so impressed with DHL. When we go on our tour later this year, I will gladly pay DHL to ship stuff back if necessary. I couldn't believe how quickly my package arrived. I'm sure there is a DHL place along the pedestrian strade in Vienna. There is everything there.

I saw that Steiff store in Salzburg--glad you scored some great stuff. It's a beautiful store and had an amazing collection of Steiff animals. Don't forget to get your VAT back!

I went the extra suitcase route. Everything home safely.
