It's been awhile since I booked a ticket on OBB. I thought I could choose the exact seat I wanted but it seems to only offer the type of seat I want. (Window, Aisle, etc)
What am I missing?
If I can only request the type, I'm trying to get a single seat alone in the FC section. Should I request window or aisle?
It depends on the type of train and the type of car whether you can choose your seat from a floor plan or just the type of seat.
You can reserve a specific seat. I did it last year.

Which train, for what travel date, are you trying to reserve? Without that information the train experts here cannot tell you what is going on.
My guess: You are trying to reserve seats for a train that is not planned to run until the far future, and so the railways cannot let you pick a seat because they do not have the seat inventory yet.
I'm actually trying to reserve a Railjet next week from Vienna to Brno.
I checked on the Czech rail website and I can easily choose the seat I want. So, I'll buy from them. Plenty of seats available.
FrankII, whas the Czech site the same price as OBB?
When converting currencies, the Czech site was $1 cheaper.

RJ from Vienna to Brno I took that 10 years ago as a day trip. An eye-opener since I had not crossed into Czechia since 2001.
On Vienna - Brno half the trains are OBB Railjets, and the other half are CD Comfortjets. And it would appear that OBB does not have the seat maps for the CD trains then. That would explain it.
The ones I was looking at on the OBB app said Railjet. I was surprised too because in the past I could make seat reservations.
As I said, not a problem. I'll just use the Czech train app.
Those CD Comfortjets do indeed run under the RJ category. It is just that for the Prague - Vienna service OBB and CD have created a pool of trains, and so some of the services are run with Czech trains and others with OBB trains. These trains are very similar, but the Czech trains are blue/white whereas the Austrian ones are red. And the car layout has a few differences.
And OBB probably hasn't gotten around to integrating the CD car layout in their system.
Sorry for jumping in but I just booked on the OBB web site for Salzburg to Prague on August 17. The specific trains are IC 641, EC 334. The web site says there are no tickets available when i try to book a reservation only. what am I doing wrong?
You are just too early.
Austria is NRT country, so ticket and seat inventories are separate. You could buy a ticket, but you cannot yet get a reservation (which is not, I repeat, not, a ticket) because seat inventory is not yet loaded. `Probably because the rolling stock has not been assigned yet to the service.
For a trip in Aug 17 you can safely wait till early August with reserving. And you can even take that train without a reservation, but than you just don't have a guaranteed seat.

Just to piggyback on this topic - I bought 2 first class tkts for a Munich hbf to Salzburg hbf on a Sunday midday in late June from DB's int.bahn.de intending to ride an RJX. On OBB, I was able to select the seats and Confirm Selection, but have consistently received the same 10018 errorcode when I select the Continue button, whether using the website or the app. I looked up the code in Google and it says payment failure, but I haven't even gotten to the page that asked for my payment.
Anyone have any idea how I can get past this?
