Schonnbrunn Gardens

We have our tickets for Schonnbrunn (Classic Pass) but would like to visit some of the gardens before our entry (8:30 am) into the Palace and the rest after. I guess I'm thinking start at the Gloriette and work our way down? RS guidebook says they should be open at 6:30 am. Is it feasible to do this and if so, how? If not can we enter through the Visitor Center area (operating hours?) or how do we get into the gardens?

On another note, how early does the U-Bahn run that we would take to get there? #4

Thanks!!

We were there for the RS MSV tour. The Gardens are HUGE! Imagine several stadiums without stands and seats. Very beautiful and adorned with a myriad of statues and an incredible monument at the far end. You can get lost in the many hedges there. you may want to consider touring gardens after Palace Tour; depends on how much you enjoy walking through elegant royal gardens. And who doesn't! Enjoy your trip, Vienna is wonderful.

The U4 starts running at 5:02 am.

I suggest you exit the U4 at the Hietzing station which will allow you to enter at the Hietzingertor (Hietzing gate) and to do a loop of the gardens via the Palmenhaus, up to the Gloriette, etc. The gates of the garden open at 6:30 am. As there are many gates and as the garden is open to the public for free, there is no need to enter the gardens through the visitor center.

Here is a link to the Schonbrunn gardens website with a very helpful map - https://www.schoenbrunn.at/en/about-schoenbrunn/gardens/

The gardens are just great. We didn't actually go into the Palace, just stayed in the Garden. Make sure to get a sandwich or pasty, and a coffee, and sit there and take it all in. Franz Joseph would approve. I think.
