Schonbrunn palace in winter

We will be in Vienna in December. In his guidebook, Rick recommends the 40-room Grand Tour, but that is not listed as an option. The palace ticket, state apartments and Marie Theresia Bergl rooms are listed as separate tours. Has anyone done those? Should we do all three?

Once in a while the tickets and tours are rebranded and reordered to confuse the tourists. :-)

What was the 40-room Grand Tour is now the Palace Ticket. Don't do all the three tours as they are overlapping. You need to read the fine print, and don't forget to look at the duration.

Unless you are deep into history, art, architecture and life of the 18th century, IMHO, the State Apartments are more than enough. Even in winter, the gardens are worth strolling around (for 90% you need not to pay for). To warm you up you can visit the Carriage Museum or climb the hill to the Gloriette where a café waits for you. (In summer I recommend to enter the gardens at the level of the top of the hill and walking down to the palace's main building.)
