Our family will stay in Flachau for one week in August. We will have a car. While I know that the whole region is georgeous, are there any routes you think are especially scenic? Thanks for your ideas!

You'll be about an hour away from probably the most spectacular one, the Grossglockner alpine road.
From Flachau, go west towards Zell am see but turn south on the 107.
There is a fee for that road of about 30 euros if I recall, but totally well worth it. Drive the road up to Heiligenblut.
If I recall is this is the highest paved road in Europe and is simply breathtaking, yet totally safe. It's lafrge enough to not be nervous.
I guess you go continue south to go back to your base thru the 106(which I haven't done)

This is a 3 star-must do road.
