Scenic Route v Fastest Route Munich to Vienna

Hello! It has been recommended that we consider taking the longer, scenic train route from Munich to Vienna that travels through Bischofshofen and Leoben during our winter travels to Munich - Vienna - Prague. The route will take approx 3 more hours than the direct/fast route but we've been told that the scenery simply cannot be missed if we can spare the time. Can anyone personally attest to this one way or the other? Thank you! Happy traveling!

At least for the Austrian part of the fastest train route I can confirm that it is not scenic, mostly because of noise barriers along the tracks which are required to protect residents near the train line. The view is much better if you sit on the upper deck of the car (only available on Westbahn, not on OeBB trains).

The long route is very scenic for sure, but you will have a ride of about 8 hours. It is doable with one change only (Munich-Leoben, Leoben-Vienna).
