Salzkammergut Dining?

We'll be based in Mondsee for a week next month, with plans to visit St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen, Gmundn, Hallstat, Strobl, etc. Any favorites? We know we can't eat Schnitzel every day, so non-traditional-Austrian restaurants (e.g. pizza, full-Italian) will also be welcome. As retirees, we look for good value/quality spots, but are open to the occasional spluge if you've had a memorable meal.

A related question: we've noted several comments in the guide books and websites about the "generous" portions in the traditional Austrian establishments. How are requests to "share" an entree viewed by the owners and staff? Will there be a difference in attitude between the Salzkammergut towns and the cities such as Vienna and Salzburg?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts. We've been gratefully studying travel tips from you Forum regulars for months, and are now ready for some specifics.

It should be no problem anywhere to order a dish to be shared by both of you.

Because you are staying in "Salzkammergut", a very famous and renowned area for vacation because of its marvelous landscape, especially the scenic combination of lakes and mountains, there are more restaurants as usual which stick out of the traditional local cuisine.

E.g.:
Mondsee

St. Gilgen:

If you click on this link - https://at.gaultmillau.com/restaurant/haus-am-hang - and scroll down, you will find on the right of the map a list of other choices in that area. Note that the little chef's hat symbols give an indication of gourmet's ratings.
