Is it easy to find the Old Town from the train station? Detailed directions please. How many minutes of walking is it? Thank you.

A very easy 10 min. walk straight down one street then cross the river on the footbridge.

Are there street signs from the train station that point you in the direction of the Old Town? Thank you.

Jill, I believe there are signs, but you just look for the palace on the hill and head in that direction. You'll figure it out.

There is a TI at the Salzburg Hbf.

Old town is about 2km from the station. 20-30 minutes if you don't get lost and walk at faster than a stroll. But then, why not stroll and run up and down the garden steps singing the Do re me song.

From Hbf head towards river to Sudtirolerplaz continuing on Rainerstr and follow toward Mirabelle. Head towards the fortress on the hill. Cross the river on the Stassbrucke and you will basically be there. There is another TI at Mozartplatz.

I have to agree with Stan. From the front of the train station, walk straight out, about a block, to the main street (Rainierstrasse), turn left. The street leads you to the old town. On the way you pass Mirabell Palace, with the Do-Re-Mi steps, Pegasus statue, etc., on the right. By that time, you will see the Fortress ahead of you. The old town is below it, across the river.

Easy walk as everyone has said . just one thing : Are you dealing with luggage ? If so . how much ? That might make you consider a bus or cab .

Carrying (or pulling) a reasonable amount of baggage shouldn't be a problem for reasonably fit folks without mobility issues. The route is basically flat and Salzburg is a walking town. That said, the TI could give you bus route information (bus # 160?) and a 2 km taxi ride shouldn't break they bank. (Taxi may have to drop you off outside of old town).
