Salzburg to Venice Itinery Question

Hi!
My husband and I will be in Salzburg at the end of April. Currently we are planning on 3 nights and 2 full days in Salzburg before continuing on to Venice with a possible side stop in Hallstatt. I have an extra day/night and four options: 1. spend on extra day and night in Salzburg, 2. drive to Hallstatt and spend the day and night there, 3. drive to Hallstatt for a quick visit and then continue on driving to Venice or 4. skip Hallstatt all together and drive directly to Venice. Note this extra day is a Sunday and Sunday night. I am leaning towards option 3 so that we aren't unloading luggage for a one night stop but was concerned that seeing Hallstatt and then driving on to Venice might be too much for one day. I do like the idea of using a Sunday as a travel day as I am aware much is closed in Europe on Sundays.

Thanks, Katie

I wanted to assume that you have enough time allotted to Venice, but decided that was silly, since enough time hardly ever exists. Is your Venice hotel already reserved? I'll also assume that the decision to drive is a done deal and you have found a reasonable car rental rate for your plan.

I don't mind a one-night stop and stayed a night in Hallstatt on previous visits. Staying would give you more time to visit the salt mine, if that's of interest and if you're not visiting one elsewhere, or to hike or relax. If you just want a little wander around town, you could stop for two hours during a longer driving day; it is quite tiny.

I would stay overnight in Hallstatt. It is very touristy small town. Evenings and especially early mornings you have it just for yourself. And it is also a good idea to take it easy and divide long drive into two.
