Salzburg to Munich to catch a flight to Paris

Hello,
I have a 6:20 pm flight from Munich to Paris on June 6 and I am spending the night in Hallstatt on the 5th and then taking the train into Salzburg on my way to Munich. I understand the train from Salzburg to Munich is roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes with one change. As well, I noticed there is only an 8 minute change over time to get the second train. Air France says I should be at the airport one hour prior to departure. Does anyone know how far it is from the airport train stop in Munich to the Air France departures and if you were me, would getting to the airport only an hour prior make you uncomfortable? Should I miss the connection for whatever reason is my ticket accepted for the next train from München Ost or is my ticket only good for that train time (I guess it's not that expensive anyway and I was going to get the discounted Bayern ticket)? I was hoping to get into Salzburg by 11:30 am and then take the 2 pm train to Munich but perhaps I am dreaming and should head to Munich sooner and forget the thought of even have a whirlwind walk around Salzburg.

If you buy a sparpreis ticket from Deutsche Bahn for 39 Euro, you can leave Hallstatt at 9:07, get to Salzburg at 11:48 and specify a 2 hour stopover in Salzburg. The EC train to Munich leaves at 14:00, getting to Munich Hbf at 15:41 and connecting to the S-Bahn in 10 minutes, getting you to Munich airport at 16:35. Your ticket will also be good on the next S-Bahn 8 minutes later and gets you to the airport at 16:46.

Thank you! I appreciate it very much. The owner of the place we are staying in Hallstatt offered to drive us to Salzburg that morning if he has time too but I hand't thought of the Bayern ticket being good for Hallstatt to Salzburg :)

It is not a Bayern Ticket, but a Deutsche Bahn Sparpreis ticket. The EC train to Munich is not valid with a Bayern Ticket, but it makes fewer stops, so is faster. You will need to make all the trains on the route except the last one. The "Before-and-After" provisions of the Sparpreis ticket means you can use any local train that day for the conclusion of a trip after the mainline ICE, IC, or EC train.
You will need to purchase well in advance and be absolutely committed to the exact trains on the ticket except the last S-Bahn to the airport.

"I understand the train from Salzburg to Munich is roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes with one change."

The trains to Munich can take less than 2 hours, but you don't mean Munich, you mean the Munich airport, MUC, don't you?

The eight minute change (at Muncih Ost) is from Gleis (platform) 6 to Gleis 5. That's cross platform. If the train is on time it's a no brainer. It the train from Salzburg is late, the next S8 comes along in 20 minutes, so it's 2 hours 40 minutes, maximum.

If you book a Savings Fare ticket (must use an express train for at least one leg) from Hallstatt to MUC, if you miss one train because another train is late, they don't penalize you. They'll put you on the next train. But the regional trains shown on that ticket are not restricted like the express trains are. That is, if the RJ or EC is late into Ostbahnhof, you just take the next S-Bahn. You can take any regional train until 10 am the following morning.

If you use a Bayern-Ticket for Salzburg to MUC, you can use any regional train or S-bahn all day long.

Yes you are correct, the airport. I think I saw it as:

Salzburg Hbf -München Ost

München Ost München Flughafen Terminal

" Does anyone know how far it is from the airport train stop in Munich to the Air France departures and if you were me, would getting to the airport only an hour prior make you uncomfortable? "

The S-Bahn station at MUC is between Terminals 1 & 2. I'm guessing 10 minutes would be enough time to go from the S-Bahn station to the check-in in Termainal 1. After that all bets are off. I would not be comfortable with arriving at the S-Bahn station only 60 minutes before flight time.

"Should I miss the connection for whatever reason is my ticket accepted for the next train from München Ost"

Yes, if you are using a train specific Savings Fare ticket from Salzburg to Munich Flughafen, the part for the S-bahn from Munich Ost to MUC is completely open. You can use any S-Bahn at any time that day to get to MUC. If you are using a Bayern-Ticket, it's for unlimited travel on regional trains, which include the S-Bahn, all day long.

"I was hoping to get into Salzburg by 11:30 am and then take the 2 pm train to Munich"

There is a regional Meridian train leaving Salzburg at 2:15 pm on June 6. It get to Munich Ostbahnhof at 3:56 pm. The S-Bahn leave from across the platform at 4:04 pm. It gets to the S-Bahn station at MUC at 4:35 pm. That gives you almost 2 hours to catch your flight. I think that is enough.
