Salzburg to Innsbruck to Bavaria train travel

Does anyone have current knowledge of the ease (or difficulty) of train travel from Salzburg to Innsbruck and then onto Mittenwald in Bavaria? Is the congestion horrendous and/or the border crossing impossible? My wife and I are traveling there in a week - around October 8th. Thanks!

Why don't you call or email your hotel in Salzburg? They may better know about the current status of the trains. It's the Germany border that was blocked last week. Those in Salzburg going to Munich had to cross the border and get on the train in Germany.

I was thinking that there is a train line from Salzburg to Innsbruck that doesn't go thru Germany.

I think you're right that the train from Salzburg to Innsbruck does't go through Germany, but to get from Innsbruck to Mittenwald you have to cross the border into Germany at some point. Is there a problem and delay at that border crossing? And it appears that maybe the situation in the Salzburg train station with regards to the refugee influx may make it difficult to get a train over to Innsbruck. That is what we are trying to determine. Thank you for your input.

Trains from Salzburg to Innsbruck are Korridorzuge: trains running on a stretch of German territory without stopping. As you cannot use them to go to Germany, they are running more or less regularly.

This summer the railway between Innsbruck and Mittenwald was closed for maintenance, I believe works are over now and trains are running regularly.

The German Rail (Bahn) schedule webpages show the regional trains from Innsbruck to Mittenwald running on schedule.

In addition to the Korridorzüge running across Germany to Innsbruck, you can take trains from Salzburg entirely through Austria, around Germany through Bischofshofen, to Innsbruck. You can tell the Korridorzüge because one of their stops is in Kufstein, Austria, on the Inn, just after they cross over the border from Germany.

Eric,

I was just in that area and based on my observations, travel from Salzburg to Innsbruck to Germany is theoretically possible (can't say for sure as I didn't travel that specific route). Most of the immigrant traffic problems seem to be on the Munich - Salzburg corridor. I found trains at Innsbruck and that area to be fairly lightly loaded, and there didn't seem to be any disruptions at all.
