Salzburg to Hallstatt

We will be in Salzburg and want to travel to Hallstatt for the day and on the way back to Salzburg stop and do the summer Toogganing in Strobl. What bus do you suggest we take to Hallstatt and then to Strobl? Is this do able?

Use the Austrian Rail website, www.oebb.at, to find bus schedules, as well as train schedules, in Austria. All trips from Salzburg to Hallstatt go through Bad Ischl.

You can get to Bad Ischl by train from Salzburg with a change in Attnang-Puchheim. If you want a trip entirely by bus, there is a direct bus (#150, 1:23) from Salzburg Hbf to Bad Ischl. From Bad Ischl, there are buses to "Hallstatt", but they come into the bus station in Lahn, which is a ½ km walk from Hallstatt along the pedestrian road the goes along the lake. Or, you could stay on the train to Hallstatt Bahnhof and come across the lake on the boat. If you had accommodations in Hallstatt, the train to Hallstatt Bahnhof is probably preferrable, but there are plenty of places to stay in Lahn.

Coming back from Hallstatt, there is a 21 minute bus ride from Bad Ischl to Strobl. You could then take a series of two buses from Strobl to Salzburg via St. Gilgen.

I think doing just Hallstatt would in a day would be a push, even without a stop in Strobl.
