Salzburg to Firenze by train

Hello all,
We are planning to visit Salzburg for a few days and then go to Florence via train. When I go onto the Trenitalia or Austrian train websites and put in practice dates of 11/29/18, neither Trenitalia nor Oebb allows me to go any father than to see the connections. I was just going to practice to see how far out I can get the tickets. If I do this on the Bahn.de website, it does allow me to see the connections, but not buying. We aren't going until the spring, but I just wanted to see the train schedule and routes. I know this will be a long day, but my husband would like to go via train and see the scenery. Thank you as always for your help!

Meridian is a German regional train company that operates hourly trains between Munich and Salzburg and Kufstein.

Yes it does. Generally at 15 past the hour from Track 5, sections C-F.

First of all, there is no fixed train schedule for next year yet. Every year, on the second Sunday of December, there is the coordinated train schedule change for all European railroad companies. The new schedule is usually published in the second half of November.

If your trip has two legs with different train operators then you must purchase the tickets separately via the respective home page if you want to do it online. On the contrary, buying the tickets at the ticket counter in Salzburg Hbf (main station) should be possible for the whole trip.

First of all, schedules for Meridian, Deutsche Bahn, Trenitalia Freccia, and Italotreno, have been published effective October 16. You can buy tickets now until at least March 22, 2019.

I checked with Trainline and they quoted 109.80 EUR for 2 2nd class, departing 8:15, arriving Florence SMN at 17:15. That was for Feb 27. Checking individually, Deutsche Bahn quotes 79.80 EUR for 2 2nd class Super Sparpreis Europa tickets. Trenitalia quotes 29.80 EUR for 2 Standard class Super Economy tickets. And that comes to 109.80 EUR, same price Trainline is quoting.

Try www.eurail.com as well. I have found the site helpful in getting a general idea of availability, routes, times, etc.
