Salzburg to Budapest - kileti station?

Hi, we will be booking our train tickets from Salzburg to Budapest. Just want to verify that it is the kileti station in Budapest right? We will be staying at hotel moments. Thanks.

Sally, excellent. I haven't stayed there, but I love the location and the lobby looks nice.

From Wikipedia: The building (Keleti) was designed in eclectic style by Gyula Rochlitz and János Feketeházy and constructed between 1881 and 1884 as one of the most modern railway stations of Europe. The main façade is adorned with two statues depicting James Watt and George Stephenson. Inside the station are frescos by Karoly Lotz.

Getting to your hotel

  1. Call City Taxi as the train pulls into the station. You will hear a recorded message in Hungarian then English, then a human voice in Hungarian. Just say "good afternoon" and the human will switch to English. They will give you a cab number. Facing the front of the station go out the doors to your right. They take credit cards and I am pretty sure will take your euro, but at a pretty dismal exchange rate. http://www.citytaxi.hu/index.php?lang=en Cost under 1500 forint (less than $6)

  2. Take the tram and see a little Budapest on the way. Go down the center stairs at the front of the station. Buy your TravelCard in the office on the right at the bottom of the stairs. Follow the signs to the M2 (Red Line), one stop towards Déli pályaudvar. Get off, go up the stairs and look around for the shinny new looking yellow tram. That's the 4/6 tram. Get on it heading north. If you cant tell north, then get the train with the unique sort of oriental lookin dome on top. Ride it two stops to the Oktogon (announcements are in English).

Now you can choose a short walk down the beautiful Andrassy ut or you can get on the M1 metro line heading towards Vorosmarty ter. I would walk. Great walk.

  1. If you just want to get from point A t point B and don't care about the view, take the M2 to the Deak Ferenc ter stop. Walk up the stairs to the M1 metro and take it one stop towards Mexikói út. Get off at Bajcsy–Zsilinszky út and you will be feet from your hotel.
