Salzburg Restaurant Recommendation?

Hi there, looking for a quaint restaurant recommendation when we arrive in old town. Our hotel is near the Getreidegasse. Don't want something fancy as we have tentative plans for St Peters Stiftskeller on another evening. Any suggestions appreciated.

In 2008, we enjoyed St Paul's Stub'n Beer Garden-although I don't remember a beer garden. We ate in an upstairs room with wood tables and lots of atmosphere. The food was very good. We got it out of the RS book. You might check to see if it is still in the current book. If it is, I think it is worth a try. I recommended it to a couple of other people on this forum and they have responded to me that they enjoyed it. It is below the HohenSalzburg fortress. It was a little hard to find, but it is before you start up toward the castle. (you go left.) Reasonably priced.

We enjoyed the Zipfer Bierhaus. It's in Old Town at Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse 12.

Alte Fuchs (Old Fox) across the river from Old Town -- very traditional, very good, very reasonable.

We really like Wilder Mann in the old town. Hearty favorites like schnitzel and goulash in a rustic room. They have large community tables, so it's a great chance to meet fellow travelers and practice your German. Casual atmosphere and good prices.

I concur with the recommendations for Zipfer and the Old Fox. Zipfer offered some interesting seasonal dishes with pumpkin that were all fantastic. And we walked over to the Old Fox to enjoy their apple streusel.

Another Old Fox (Alter Fuchs) fan. Just a couple of blocks from the bridge (Staatsbrücke) from Old Town (Altstadt).

In 2013 we ate at Wilder Man and loved it. The food was very good, and the setting very quaint. The people there were very kind. Last May we found ourselves in Salzburg with another couple. The other couple chose the restaurant and it was Wilder Man. The same two men were there that served us in 2013. They remembered us because of my husband's guide dog. They were as kind as ever and the food was still as good as I remembered.

We also liked Alter Fuchs -- it's an easy walk from Old Town. Another one we liked, just beyond the plaza with the Mozart statue, was Zirkelwirt. It was fabulous and casual.

Zirkelwirt was the best food and atmosphere we had during our 4 night stay in Sept 2016. In Old Town a block off Mozartplatz. Very good food and great service. Pretty youthful atmosphere.

We stopped in to Zipfer - looked like a lot of fun! But it was super smoky - even the non-smoking room was really smoky.

Not any commentary on the food, but just a word to others who are super sensitive like me. Probably all of the pubs/beer halls are smoky; this was the only time in 2 weeks we found smoke, so we moved on.

Search the archives for Salzburg. I put up a bunch of restaurant recommendations maybe a month ago on another thread. If you can't find it let me know as I had some great ones.
