Salzburg reasonable accommodations in August.

Hallo,
I’m having a challenge finding 2 single bedrooms for 2 people in Salzburg near the alte Stadt.

I studied music many years ago at the Mozarteum. I know now that I didn’t book early enough. Our trip is the first week of August 2023. We don’t want to spend more than $125 a night. All suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you:)

Do you have IHG points? Salzburg hotels are very expensive. There is a Holiday Inn outside the old town. Their rates are reasonable, though I am not sure about their Aug rates.

Thank You. I just checked and the rooms are 200 Euros for one night :(
Perhaps a pension. We will have a car but I’m sure parking in the old city will be difficult:(

Near the Alte Stadt will be challenging indeed...anywhere in Salzburg really. I did not succeed in finding less-than-150€ single rooms in September last year.
You could find cheaper places in Bad Reichenall across the German border (an interesting place in its own right, near Berchtesgaden), and park at Mönschberg when you want to visit the Salzburg old town.

Did you look at https://gaestehaus-priesterseminar-salzburg.at/en/ I'm staying there for three nights in June. Cheaper than nearby hotels. Very basic, but has good reviews. According to Google Maps, it's walking distance to most things.

EDIT Oops! sorry, I just looked at the first week of August for you and all of August is booked. Single room rate is €80/night, including breakfast.

Thank you to the comment about where to park.:)
That is another question once I book a place:)

You are arriving during the Salzburger Festspiele (20 July - 31 August). Lodging prices are higher during that time. It will be difficult to find 2 single bedrooms for 2 people at around $125 total per night. Heck, it might be hard to find a room in the old town at all at this point. I've stayed at the Gästehaus im Priesterseminar during the Festival. No a/c (with highs around 90) + noisy street below = difficulty sleeping, but I managed it okay.

We will be in Salzburg July 19-21. I am not familiar with the Festpiele. We are staying at Wolf- Dietrich Altstad. Did we chose an extremely busy time?

The Festspiele/Festival is an annual summer festival in Salzburg that features drama, opera, and classical music. Crowds are heavier during the Festival but certainly not unbearable (based on my visit there during the Festival in 2014).

Thanks for the info. With the Festspiele going on I am grateful I booked our 3 rooms well in advance. It sounds like a great way to experience Salzburg. We however will be doing a Sound of Music tour…so very limited time there. I am hoping our musically educated OP can find some lodging! Best wishes!

There seem to be lots of reasonably priced and well-reviewed pensions south of the centre. I'm visiting for the festival this summer and staying at Pension Katrin, which is only a 10 minute walk to the centre. With a car, all of the places on Moosstraße would also be accessible for you (with buses to the centre when you don't want to drive). I believe the RS book has specific recommendations along that street.

Thank you. I looked up Pension Katrina. $182 a night. For a single room in August. A little too high for my budget.
I was able to reserve one room at another pension on Moosestrasse for $125 a night. We are on their cancellation list if something should open up for another room for our 4 nights. Thank you for your suggestion and enjoy the festival
