Salzburg planning help

Is it possible/advisable to try to do all the following in one day:

Mozart's Birthplace
Fortress
Whole afternoon in Berchtesgaden (would like to see Eagle's Nest)

(We will have a car so not beholden to a bus/other transport to Berchtesgaden.)

THANK YOU!!!

It is possible, but I wouldn't do it. The fortress and Mozart's birthplace can easily be seen in half a day with time for another activity. I would give a full day to Berchtesgaden though unless maybe you only want to go to Eagle's Nest. There is enough to see and do there that I would feel rushed if trying to fit it in half a day. The trip to Eagles Nest takes some time, and then I enjoy spending time in the Koenigssee area.

Agreed. I would either devote a full day to Berchtesgaden to enjoy/hike around Konigssee (that could take nearly a full day on its own) and a tour of the museum/bunkers and the Eagle's Nest or spend the day in town: take a few hours to explore Hohensalzburg fortress/Mozart's birthplace/other sights in town. Whatever you decide, be sure to enjoy a traditional meal and stein of beer at the Augustiner beer hall. It doesn't get much better!

Having just spent a few days in Salzburg, I would echo what the others are saying. While the drive to Berchtesgaden is fairly quick (we had a car as well) I think trying to cram all of that into one day could be a bit much. If you have more than a single day in Salzburg, I would devote one day to the old town area and another to Berchtesgaden, etc. Salzburg is a very walkable city, so if you decide to go this route, plan on parking your car and take advantage of the very handy bus system there (they sell 24 hour travel cards on the buses for less than 6 euro each).

Best of luck!
