Salzburg (Melk-Durnstein) to Vienna

Hello,

We are travelling from Salzburg to Vienna, and would love to see Melk and Durnstein on the way.
What is the best way to do it? we are travelling with a carry on and a backpack and we are not sure if there are lockers in the train stations, besides, I think via train would take a long time, wouldn't it?
Are there any shuttle or taxi services that are not incredibly expensive?

How many of you are there and what would you consider not incredibly expensive? There are private transfers from Salzburg to Vienna with stops at several optional places but prices will be what I would consider high. You can check https://mydaytrip.com/ for one example.

I have no information about luggage storage in either Melk or Durnstein.

How long will you be in Vienna? It's cheaper and easier (no luggage) to do a day trip to Melk and Durnstein from Vienna than as stops on a transfer.

That's good to know about the lockers at Melk station. If you have enough time you could take the train to Melk, drop your luggage there and take the boat to Durnstein for lunch and a look around, take the bus back to Melk, explore the abbey and then train to Vienna. It would be a full day but doable.

It is a short walk from the train station. Yes, there are lockers.

Both great visits. I love a ruin on a hill, my wife likes visiting abbeys.
