Salzburg Kapuzinerberg Scenic Viewpoint

I am planning on taking Rick Steve's New Town walk. Since it is my travel day, how long should I expect it to take to walk from: (1) the Linzer Gasse 14, past the 12 Stations of the Cross to a Capuchin monastery. (2) Across from this castle (I assume the monastery), I should follow a shorter loop to find the viewpoint and (3) then follow the trail that descends to Steingasse and the river (directions can be found on page 327 of his 2023 Guidebook "Kapuzinerberg City View"). Any guidance would be appreciated as I can then determine whether I can fit this in my morning itinerary before departing Salzburg.

Hi. Let me move this closer to the top of the question list. I am not the best person to answer this. While I have taken part of this walk - I aimed for the top and not just the monastery. Consequently, as I am a slower walker, it took me longer than I anticipated. But, do not let this put you off. I think you can tailor your walk to the time you have. If you are running short of time, turn around and retrace your steps.

The paths are leafy green and yes, uphill. The paths were beautifully quiet when I was there.

I do not have access to the maps you are viewing. I can't find my version of the RS book that contains Salzburg. However, if you google this, you may find (as I did) videos of people's walks and discussions of their stops along the way. One video definitely spoke about doing this walk on their travel day - a morning activity before travel. Sounds like maybe what you have in mind?

Anyway, let's see if someone more knowledgeable than me views this and responds. I would say it is worth an exploration.

Also, if you use google maps you can outline a trip and it will give you walking times and directions.

Salzburg is relatively small, I would think this would only take part of a morning.

I don't have the referenced map but I guess you wanted to go here.

It takes about 20 minutes one-way over a steep climb of about 60 meters in altitude. I checked this using the time stamps on my photos.

Google maps doesn't know the paths on the Kapuzinerberg. For more detailed hiking trails I use the app "OsmAnd".

I walked this path when I was last in Salzburg , from Linzer Gasse ( Stefan Zweig Platz ) all the way up . While I didn't descend to Steingasse ( I went back down to Linzergasse ) , the hike up is extremely steep . There is a staircase on your right as you ascend , which was somewhat easier for me than the path . It's a difficult hike and I took my time ( I'm in my late seventies ) My reason for doing this was somewhat of a pilgrimage to the home of the late Austrian writer , Stefan Zweig . Zweig left his home behind in 1934 after it was raided by the Nazis . He ultimately committed suicide in 1942 due to the devastation to civilization as a result of Hitler's regime . Just before you reach the monastery , there is a memorial ( Stolpersteine ) in the path at the entrance to the home . Have a ;look here - https://www.stolpersteine-salzburg.at/en/stolperstein/zweig_stefan/
