Hello! We’ll be arriving in Salzburg on a Sat morning. Has anyone had good luck in finding a hotel that allows early check in? (Or at least has a safe and secure luggage room?) Thank you!
With an early arrival, I’ve started reserving the room for an extra night so I can check in right away. It’s nice being able to get in the room upon arrival and freshen up.
If you go with this option, just be sure to let the hotel know you will be arriving the morning after your reservation starts so they hold the room.
While most hotels will hold your luggage, I have found this sometimes means the suitcase sits in the lobby.
Hi, jennyd, it depends on how early you get there, but with regards to check-ins, definitely you should be able to leave your luggage there in a safe and secure room. I've been traveling abroad for over 30 years and have never yet had a hotel not be able to store my luggage securely.
That said, one thing you might do is to contact hotels that you are interested in booking and ask them about early check-in. If it's allowed, and if not, is there any way you could get it for an extra charge? For example, there are some hotels I've stayed at that will allow early check-in for an extra small-ish fee. It's certainly worth asking about. At the very least, ask them if they have a secure room for luggage storing if you get there early.
Enjoy Salzburg! It's a wonderful, wonderful place to visit.
I suspect any hotel will allow early check in, IF they have a room available.
If a room is empty and has been cleaned, why wouldn't they? Of course, this is much more likely in a large hotel than a small, family run hotel.
Salzburg can be crowded, so time of year matters, as well as good old luck of
the draw. Most likely any room that was occupied the night before won't be cleaned
before late morning.
Nowadays I see some hotels offering early checkin for a fee, which might be another
possibility.
