Salzburg Hotel and Restaurant experience

Just dined at Rick Steve’s recommended Salzburg restaurant Restaurant Triangel. Limp waitstaff and weak traditional cooking. A big no.

We are at Rick Steve’s recommended hotel in Salzburg at Hotel Weisse Taube. The room is stuffy and feels like a dorm room with IKEA furniture, no charm and a disinterested desk clerk. For the price we could have done better. Don’t stay….

other than that, how's the vacation going?

Don't understand the term "limp" waitstaff???

I’m sorry to hear you had bad experiences. We stayed at that same hotel in December 2022 and absolutely loved it! Our room did not resemble a dorm room in the least. We like fresh air so had our windows cracked a bit. The front desk were very helpful when we had any questions etc.

Can you say more about the hotel? I stayed there in July 2024 and liked it (but I didn’t know it was in Rick’s book). I’m also due to be there again next month. Do you mind passing along information on which hotels you find better for less money - this would be useful for me since I am reserving several rooms. Thanks!

The lady at the desk was buried in her computer and could barely look at us. “Need your ID, here is your key and your room is on the 4th floor, breakfast is 26 Euro each, the elevator is to your right.”
Our room has two of the 3 lightbulbs overhead out, no toilet paper holder and yes we have windows that open to a courtyard (very noisy), but it is nice to have air. The floor is wood laminate and does not feel clean on the feet or look clean. No in room refrigerator and there is a vending machine in the lobby.

Ok, thank you for replying! Everyone has differing levels of priorities and specifics are helpful. I think we’ll be ok based on this, but I am definitely still interested in the places you found for a better price. Budget also matters.

If i were shopping, having never stayed there or even looked in the lobby, then just looking at the pictures posted by guests I suspect you are correct in that its sort of a cheaply furnished hotel. Even the theme seems to be a bit inconsistent. The style seems to be directed at under 30 clients. Then there are several complaints about the noise of the elevator in the rooms. Thats a first for me. Nothing just horrible that I can find, but nothing particularly remarkable either. I compared the cost against where I stayed in Salzburg last year, a hotel I sort of liked, and a good location, but was known to be a bit pricy and the Weisse Taube was only about $25 a night less expensive. If I were hunting online for a hotel for my kids, and I were paying, I would choose the hotel, if paying for my trip its one I would skip.

As for the restaurant. Yup, just based on the photos posted by guests .... would not have been tops on my list.

Hmm. Stayed in the same hotel and didn’t have complaints. If you are looking for luxury, then this is not for you. Salzburg Altstadt is horribly overpriced but I felt that location, breakfast and manager-blond woman in breakfast room were nice. And opening up my windows to hear the bells was a perk.

Finally, if you are looking for American style over enthusiasm in hotel staff in Germany/Austria, then you will be disappointed. Unless you stay at the Ritz. My room was adequate. It was a bit quirky and not modern/sleek.
