If we want to walk around Salzburg, Old Town, Mirabell Palace etc (not interested in visiting the Zoo), then can we do an afternoon drive out to Eagles Nest, and then head back to our accommodation in St Gilgen. Or, am i being overly ambitious?
Too ambitious.
I would prefer to have a slower day in Salzburg area. That wouldn't give me enough time at Augustiner.
Too ambitious.
Eagles Nest may be a day tour on its own. It is difficult to estimate the time needed. Sometimes there are lots of tourists waiting to visit it, and you may wait one or two hours until it is your turn.
It is unlikely to be a happy day if you try to do all that
We have 4 days in the Salzkammergut leg of our stay (staying in St Gilgen).
1 day Salzburg
1 day Hallstatt
1 day Zell am See
1 day around the lakes & Bad Ischl
We then head down south via the Grossglockner HAR to Lienz.
So, I'm wondering if its worth the time to make a trip up to Eagles Nest? Is it a whole lot of driving for something thats .... ?
Salzburg is a joy of a city to experience at your leisure. With so much to see and do, it requires a two-day visit all by itself. And David, you are 100% correct re: Augustiner!
