Salzburg Dinner Reservation Restaurant Suggestions - Summer

We are traveling for 2 nights and 3 days to Salzburg this summer (after spending a week in southern Germany, and then moving onto Vienna for 3 days after Salzburg). We are a family of 4 (11 and 14 year old daughters). Our 14 year old is a picky eater but will eat fried chicken, bread, pasta, hamburgers, hot dog type wurst, pizza and anything cheese related. The 11 year old is adventurous as are my husband and I. We have been told we should make reservations for dinner since we will be there at the start of July. We will be staying either at Weisse Taube, Mirabell Platz Hotel or Preisterseminar (looking at these 3). Any suggestions on where to go to eat? I am making our itinerary. Thank you!

You should start training your older daughter that food in foreign countries is usually different to US standard fast food. :-)

Right by the old market square is Café Tomaselli; if the weather is good they will have more tables outside than in. I like to sit here and watch the world go by. If your daughter likes sausage and cheese just get her a cold plate, it will probably come with pickles and / or olives and it's my normal snack (with a beer). There's also an Imbiss right near by where she'll see a lot of kids her age lining up for the local fast food (sausages, pretzels, fries, etc. Just give her 10/20 euro and have her make her choices, and maybe a friend.

Pauli Stubm is a little hard to find, but worth it. Excellent beer garden. Augustiner is very good also, but it does get a large amount of tourist business. Great view from there. There are some pizza places scattered around and along the river and they get steady business from students. My cousins kids were quite surprised by the differences between the local fare and what they were used to, but they loved the idea that everyone gets their own. You may also want to introduce them to Spezi which is like a cola, but different, and popular.

FWIW, we loved our stay at the Weisse Taube.

We enjoyed Zwettler's on both of our trips. It is pretty much next door to that hotel. Their menu has some simple dishes that even a picky eater would be happy with.

Another place we had a wonderful dinner was Johaneskellar. It is cash only, and there is an ATM just before you go downstairs into the restaurant. There is a basic chicken dish and Spatzle which are great for basic eaters.

Have to say Augustiner Brau house is a great choice. Quite an experience. Lovely garden and halls. Lots of locals not just for tourists. Food choices really good and very reasonably priced for beer and food.

Thank you! I will add all of these to my research list. I believe Augustiner is a definite yes for one night!

Try to book an outdoor table, as most restaurants don't have AC.

If the weather is good many places if available will only use their outside seating.

If your budget stretches to St. Peter Stiftskulinarium, I highly recommend it. It doesn't necessarily get the highest possible ratings from tourists, but we had outstanding meals there, and the interior decor is stunning. Outstanding sommelier service as well.

Any child who loves fried chicken likely will also love schnitzel, especially one made with veal. Some restaurants will even serve chicken schnitzel, which makes things even easier.

Finally, I highly recommend the beer garden at Augustiner Bräu Mülln. Wonderful gemütlich atmosphere, tasty beer and the absolute finest smoked pork spareribs I've ever eaten.
