Salzburg, Austria

My wife and I may be ending a biking trip in May of next year in Salzburg. We may stay in Salzburg for another two or three days. What are recommendations for a moderately priced lodging accommodation. What are recommended things to see and do for that period of time.

We were in Salzburg earlier this month and stayed at the Hotel Hofwirt at the beginning of a pedestrian only section on the north part of town. The remodeled space had a modern vibe with a spacious breakfast area. Ask for a room with a courtyard view for a quieter stay.

We did a City Walking Tour on our first day to get a feel for the city layout. We mainly explored the town at an easy pace - the fortress, Mirabell Gardens and also participated in a apple strudel cooking class. We plan to go back in 2023 and include Vienna.

Have a safe trip!

Dorothy--thank you for the mention of the cooking class. I just googled and found it. It looks perfect for our group of 3 for December, so sent off a request.

Hi, we love Salzburg and purchased the Salzburg City Card the last time we were there. It includes several of the places listed in responses. What we especially liked was since everything was prepaid, we briefly stopped into some museums, etc. that were originally not on our list. I remember a tiny Christmas museum near the Weisse Taube Hotel (where we stayed). We enjoyed seeing the antique ornaments, and the scene was nostalgic to us. We also went to several of the sites associated with the Sound of Music movie. The next time we go, I would like to rent bikes to explore more.

One more that my husband did: A tour of the Glockenspiel Bell Tower

Public tours to the bell tower run from March to October on Thursdays at 5.30 pm and Fridays at 10.30 am. Availability also depends on the weather. In snowy or icy conditions, there are no tours to the bell tower,
