We will be spending 2-3 days in the Salzburg area this June/July.
Anyone have good suggestions on places to stay and neat things to do with kids. ( 11 and 15)
We are outdoor people also:)

My husband and I took the bus out to the Salzburg zoo and the Hellbrunn Palace and trick fountains - kids would probably get a kick out of the trick fountains (as an adult, it was a touch annoying, as I was trying to keep my camera and myself dry, but the kids there seemed to love it). We did it all in one trip - a good way to kill an afternoon!

If the kids have recently seen The Sound of Music movie, then they might enjoy going on the "SOM" bus tour that leaves from Salzburg.

Salt mines, ice caves, Hellbrunn are all excellent ideas. I would add in the Red Bull Hangar 7 (http://www.hangar-7.com/en/), the summer tobagan run, sommerrodelbahn in German, in Hallein (http://www.duerrnberg.at/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76&Itemid=75) and a visit to Hallstatt.

I have been in that region as well. Germany is quite close to Salzburg (10 km) and you can visit the Salt Museum in Bad Reichenhall. There is also a mountain called "Predigtstuhl" which has a cable car installed. It provides a beautiful overview over the region including Salzburg and the Northern Alps. This is especially interesting for kids because there is no long hike up to the summit.
