Salzburg and Vienna -- stores similar to Monoprix?

are there any stores similar to Monoprix in Salzburg and Vienna? Something that has home goods, clothes and a little food?

I'm interested - this is the same question you have asked for several countries, and your only question.

What are you trying to find, and which country do you actually want to find it in?

If we knew what you are looking for we can probably suggest places other than those most similar to Monoprix...

Thank you, Phred! That looks lovely!

But there you won't find house goods and clothes. It is a supermarket providing excellent stuff, but the restaurant is mediocre.

Part of the subtle beauty of traveling in Europe (at least for me) is there is no such thing as "one-stop shopping". Frequenting and supporting the small local shops not only gives you a greater sense of place but helps perpetuate it as well.

The concept of Walmart/Target superstores does not really exist outside of Monoprix (I blame the French - kidding!). Of course, comparing Monoprix to Target/Walmart is insulting to Monoprix. They would never be so pedestrian!

I'm not sure how one gets the idea that there are no megastores in Europe. Carrefour is huge in both France and Spain, and Mercadona also in Spain. Their "hypermarkets" seem to me to be very similar to a Target, Walmart or Meijer store in the US. It looks as though Maximarkt and Interspar have hypermarkets in Salzburg.

It's great to visit the quaint shops and central markets throughout Europe, but if one is doing routine weekly shopping on an extended trip for stuff like cereal, milk and razor blades, these hypermarkets are a godsend. Speaking from personal experience.

JPH Bucks, thank you for this information! And also for your perspective.

I love shopping in the quaint groceries and charming boutiques, but sometimes you need paper towels, diaper cream, and grapes and would like to get them all at once!

Ok, I feel that I need to clarify some things as a person who actually lives in Austria. Interspar is not a hypermarket as the OP describes. Interspar essentially has all of the same things that any Spar has, just in a larger space. There are no clothes and it is nothing like a Target or Walmart, for certain. If the OP is just looking for a place that has food and health care items, then any grocery store will have those things - even the small ones.
