Salzburg and Vienna Card

We are trying to determine if we should buy either card. We are in Salzburg for 2 1/2 days and staying a little out of town. We plan on going to Old Town, Mirabelle Palace, Mozart House, Salzburg Fortress, Abbey, and several other stops downtown. In Vienna, we are staying in a very central location just blocks from St. Stephens Cathedral. We also plan on going to Kunsthistorisches Museum, Schoenbrunn, and several other places inside the Ring. It looks like it is best to buy it in Salzburg based on how far we are from places and that we would be fine walking in Vienna. Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

We'll be going to both locations in September. We're planning to purchase the Salzburg Card but not the Vienna Card.

The Salzburg gives you free entrance to several items of interest to us, including the Fortress funicular and the cable car for Untersberg. We'll be staying in the Old Town, so we won't need the free local transportation as much as might be beneficial for you. I enjoy the cards because I end up stopping in some places that I might not otherwise, but I don't feel compelled to stay at them for a long time. For instance, I have a classical music background, so I'll stop briefly in the Mozart places.

The Vienna Card is just a discount card, not free entry. We're also staying across the street from St. Stephens, so free transportation isn't needed, although we'll hop on to ride around the Ringstrasse and out to a Heurige. We'll be in Vienna for 5 days. Looking at the Vienna Card discounts, we're still ahead to just pay full price for the locations/museums we're planning to visit.

Untersberg is great particularly if you're not going to the Alps -- we were there in a warm October and got a great view of snowy peaks. Wouldn't have done it without the Salzburg card.

I wasn't planning on going to Untersberg originally, but the more I read about it and the more I research it, I want to go. It is just finding the time to go. It looks a lot further out of town, and in a packed schedule, that is a hard one to fit in. I love photography though and it looks like a great place to take pictures. Thanks for the advice.
