Salzburg and Innsbruck

I arrive in Salzburg on July 9th and will leave on July 12th. Which are the best suggested sights and will it be possible to do a day trip to Innsbruck apart from Hallstatt and Salzburg sightseeing.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Best regards,

Pradeep

I don't think you have enough time to go to Innsbruck. It's over 2 hours away. (full disclosure: I have been to Innsbruck twice and don't think it is worth spending 4-5 hours to get there and back. It is not my favorite city in Austria!) I would focus on Salzburg. If you want to do a day trip, consider going to the Lake area just east of Salzburg. Most people love Hallstatt, but I also loved St Gilgen and Mondsee. If the weather is good, you could look into visiting Hitler's Eagle Nest. Also, Berchtesgaden is close to Eagles Nest and is a nice stop if you like shopping. Halllein is close by and there is a Salt Mine Tour there. If you have a car, you could probably do all three in a day. You didn't say what you enjoy doing (shopping, history, tours, etc) If you add some of those details, you will get more customized answers. For example: How are you arriving? Driving? Flying?

Rick Steves self-guided walking tour is very good.

Ice Cave is awesome (went today!), but if you are trying to get to Hallstatt during your time in Salzburg, too, that might be a lot to try to do.

Dinner and a Mozart concert at the fortress is great, though it may be a little warm in July (no a/c at the fortress).

Mozart Geburtshaus (Birth House) where you can stand in the room where Mozart was born. It's better than the Mozart Wohnhaus (where he lived later in life), in my opinion.

Wandering the old town.

A few queries

1) Which is best way to get to Hallstatt from Salzburg? Train or bus
2) Is it possible do the salt mine, ice cave and Hallstatt sightseeing in one day
3) Does Berchtesgaden train station have lockers

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

1) Which is best way to get to Hallstatt from Salzburg? Train or bus

Travel time is about the same.

Train only: Salzburg - Attnang-Puchheim (express train), Attnang-Puchheim - Hallstatt (local train)
Bus/train: Salzburg - Bad Ischl (bus #150), Bad Ischl - Hallstatt (local train)

The bus ride is much more scenic that the express train ride.

2) Is it possible do the salt mine, ice cave and Hallstatt sightseeing
in one day

It would be difficult to squeeze all of that into a day. There are two ice cave options -- the one at Werfen mentioned above and one at Dachstein Krippenstein. The ice cave at Werfen takes up a good part of the day in and of itself. The second is closer to Hallstatt, but it would still be difficult to pull that off with the salt cave and Hallstatt sightseeing all in one day.

3) Does Berchtesgaden train station have lockers

Conflicting information by the DB station finder (no) and the BEG station database (yes). Might indicate that there are lockers but not provided by DB but by the town. I'd email to info@berchtesgaden.de. Ask if they can keep your luggage for a couple of hours if there aren't any.

You can make a day of the ice caves combined with a worthwhile trip to Hohenwerfen Castle.

If you enjoy hiking, a day can be had at Lake Königssee, or combine it with a cable car ride up the Jenner.

In Salzburg itself, quite a few miss Schloss Hellbrunn and its zoo.
