Salzburg Accommodations- Family of 4

Hello,

We will be without a car and coming in by train, visiting Salzburg the summer of 2026 for either 2 or 3 nights. I am starting to plan our trip so that I can make reservations early and get a room that works for our family, plus be able to stay within a budget. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking for a quad/ family room or two doubles in an inn/ guesthouse/ pension with breakfast included. I speak German and true to Rick Steves philosophy, love the idea of immersing into the culture. We have 2 children aged 11 and 14 plus my husband and I. We would like to stay in the old town area or very close so that we can easily walk to that part of Salzburg. We can take a taxi from the train station if necessary to our inn, so not to worry about that.

We are trying to be budget conscious and looking to spend around $250 a night or less. Our plans are to do the SOM tour (bike or bus not sure), check out Mozart's home, the castle, and maybe get to the abby bear garden if possible. Also, perhaps take the bus to the swimming pool outside of town.

I saw Bloburger Hof looked lovely, and this could be a consideration outside of town in the countryside as the bus into town stops right out front so it seems, so this is on the list, but would really like to focus on in-town bed and breakfast places! Also, if there is a Rick Steves discount, that is plus! I have the RS book but looking for personal recommendations.

I traveled to Salzburg with my two daughters. stayed at https://www.hotel-hohenstauffen.at/

We had a family room that had four beds. It was very budget friendly. Family run, great breakfast. It is by the train station and about a 15 minute walk to the old town area.

It's been a while since we've been there, please check recent reviews.

For Sound of Music, we followed the walking tour in the RS guidebook and we took the Panoramic Tour. It goes to the wedding church in Mondsee which I highly recommend.

Please stay at least three nights, as that's just two full days- maybe longer. You don't say where you're coming from or going to afterwards,
As salzburg is magical, give yourself enough time to actually feel you are there- and there's Berchtesgaden and the salt mines.
Have a wonderful family trip.

From mid July to mid August there is the Salzburger Festspiele, one of the most renowned classical music, opera and theater festivals of the world. Salzburg will be fully booked and prices will be sky-rocketing.

Try to avoid that time frame unless you are intersted in classical music and opera.

We will be there the last week in June, so that works out (2026). Also, we will likely stay 3 nights!

The Alstadt Hotel Hofwirt in Salzburg has a family room which has a queen bed, a twin, and a sleep sofa. The hotel is very conveniently located beginning of the pedestrian district. It has a wonderful included breakfast buffet and is budget friendly. Highly recommend!

I am in Salzburg right now and although older single female traveling solo I am in a wonderful place. I am in the Gasthaus Priesterseminar Salzburg. It's down the street from the Mirabell Palace, across the street from it seems to me every bus number in Salzburg and extremely walkable any place that you want to go. Has a fabulous breakfast, a wonderful staff, large rooms although I do not know if they have a unit for four people.
