Salzberg hotel

Arriving by train and spending 2 nights mid Sept. Looking for inexpensive hotel, family run (?) with access to old town. Just looking for a place to sleep hopefully with a nice breakfast.

If you mean SALZBURG, the Sound of Music city, spell it that way. I don't know what you'll find if you spell it Salzberg.

I've stayed at the Hotel Trumer Stube twice. Nice, small hotel on New Town side but a short walk to Old Town. I haven't been in several years and last time I was there I think they were reconstructing some of the shopping at the end of the street. Not sure if this has affected any of the atmosphere. It still seems to be getting good reviews on Trip Advisor.

We enjoyed Hotel Drei Kreuz in 2013 and Goldenes Theater Hotel in 2014. Both a short walk across the river from Old Town. Good breakfasts!

"Looking for inexpensive hotel, family run (?) with access to old town."

If you are really looking for an inexpensive hotel and are willing to be a little ways out of the old town, I would suggest Hotel Rupertus in Freilassing, just over the border in Germany. I've stayed here twice before going by train/bus from the Salzburg Hbf. The room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast is included in the low price (35€, single, 55€, double). It's a few rooms attached to a restaurant, run by the owner. Nothing fancy, just a place to sleep. The website is only in German, but Herr Chudoba speaks very good English. The website has a form for online reservation and a link to his email.

There is a bus stop a block away for a bus that takes you directly (no changes) to Hanusch Platz, which is closer to the old town than any place yet mentioned, in 23 minutes.

I stayed at the Mozart and was very pleased, and it's family-run. The breakfast was extra, so I skipped it as I don't eat a lot for breakfast ever.

We stayed in hotel Elefant. Right in the Old Town, view of the fortress. Spacey accommodation, good breakfast, medium priced.

Scott,

I've stayed at Hotel Krone in the past, and will again on my next visit. I found the rooms very comfortable and the staff were great (although I think it's changed hands since my last visit).

We also liked the Hotel Elefant where we stayed a number of years ago. We just booked it for our Christmas market trip in December. I would not say it is inexpensive, however.

We liked the hotel Weisse Taube. Excellent location in the old town, easy to reach by public trans from the train station. The staff was very helpful and a pleasant breakfast was included.

Ditto for Weisse Taube. We have stayed here 3 times and love being in the Old Town as well as the excellent breakfast.

My daughter and I spent two nights at the Gastehaus I'm Priesterseminar in Salzburg in May. It's in the new town, on the Markatplatz and an easy walk to the old town and right on the bus line, so easy to get to from the train station. They had a nice breakfast and free wifi. I suggest contacting them directly via email to get the best rate. Rooms are fairly basic, but it was comfortable and clean. Enjoy Salzburg, we loved it!

Another vote for Weiss Taube. Great location. We stayed in the top floor family room. Nothing fancy but perfect for our needs.
