We enjoyed the Mirabell Palace concert in 2019. Neat to be somewhere that Mozart actually played. Would highly recommend.

In September, we attended a concert at the Mirabell Palace. It was lovely - one of the highlights of our 3 week trip. The ensemble was very talented, the Mozart and Haydn selections were interesting (familiar and lesser known) and listening to that music in that space was enchanting. 100% recommend.

Two tips and an observation:

When ordering tickets online we used the promo code RICK10 and got a 10% discount. Very nice!

If you want to be assured seats together, book the assigned seating or arrive when the doors open. Our concert was sold out.

And my observation (I may be opening a Pandora’s box - but here goes):
The audience didn’t follow the convention of holding applause until all movements of a piece were completed. I’m not sure if the audience was just carried away with the magic or if perhaps many audience members were new to classical music. I’m thinking this is a regular thing as the musicians appeared to be expecting the frequent applause and were cool about it. I know this matters to some people and makes no difference to others. Just a data point.

This would be an audience of tourists not aficionados, so they applaud when there's a break. Makes sense really.

Phred, yes, that’s what I was thinking. Regardless, it was an appreciative and enthusiastic crowd.

I attended a concert at the Fortress in September. Also had the dinner served before the concert in another part of the complex. Music was great, setting was great. Dinner was fine but the waiter was overworked and struggled to get everyone out in time for the show.

We loved the concert in the Golden Hall at the Fortress. It was worth flying across an ocean for. The music was outstanding and the setting was intimate. We did not go to the dinner.

Thanks. I may go to both! I'm a bit leary about the dinner. There are several good reviews on line, but as I'm traveling alone I may skip that part. sue

What about dinner and music at St Peters? Has anyone gone there?

Can't comment on St Peters, or the dinners, but we've attended concerts at both the Palace and the Fortress. Both were very well done, and we enjoyed them. But we found the same as JenS. Most of the audience seemed to be tourists who were unaware of the usual concert etiquette. The musicians seemed to take it in stride.

It's personal preference, but we aren't fans of dinner/concert combos in general. I'd rather pick my own restaurant to be a bit more confident in the food quality.
